WordPress for Android: Version 4.9

Howdy, WordPress users! Version 4.9 of the WordPress for Android app is now available in the Google Play Store.

Fingerprint scanner

On devices compatible with Android 6.0, you can set up the fingerprint scanner to unlock your lock screen instead of typing your PIN code. If your device is compatible with this feature, you’ll see the fingerprint icon, as seen here:

Better Media Library experience

We made some changes to the Media Library, with better handling of multiple photo and video uploads. We also redesigned the detail screen, shown below, with a cleaner look and material design:

Minor changes

  • Fixed an issue that was deleting posts instead of moving them to the trash.
  • Fixed a bug that was incorrectly asking for credentials of users with an Author role.
  • Solved an issue when opening some external sites from the app browser: a few sites were not recognizing our app browser and were hiding content (Facebook videos, for instance).
  • Corrected a problem regarding disappearing avatars on the Comment list.

Do you enjoy keeping up with what’s new in the app, testing stuff, and exploring new UI changes before anyone else? Our testers have access to beta versions with updates shipped directly through Google Play. The beta versions may have new features, new fixes — and possibly new bugs! Testers make it possible for us to improve the overall app experience, and offer us invaluable development feedback.
