Hi, WordPress users! Version 4.6 of the WordPress for Android app is now available in the Google Play Store — you should take it for a spin!
Optimization
We’ve made the app faster when it starts and when you switch between tabs on the main screen. You should also notice that tab-switching is now smoother than before, especially if you use a lower-end or older device.
What’s new
Some of you were disappointed to see the Share button in the Post Preview screen disappear when we introduced version 4.5. We heard you, and you convinced us that the app should offer an easy way to share a post you just published. That’s why we’ve added a new notification that lets you quickly share a link to your posts or pages (a shortlink if you’re using WordPress.com or Jetpack) right after you publish them. Have a look at the screenshot below:
For even easier sharing, we’ve also reintroduced link shortening when you share a post or page URL via the Post Preview screen.
A fresh icon
Check out your homescreen: can you spot our new, circular WordPress icon? Like in the good old days, the new WordPress icon is big and bold and blue (we think it’s pretty cool!).
Beta
Do you enjoy keeping up with what’s new in the app, testing stuff, and exploring new UI changes before anyone else? Our testers have access to beta versions with updates shipped directly through Google Play. The beta versions may have new features, new fixes — and possibly new bugs! Testers make it possible for us to improve the overall app experience, and offer us invaluable development feedback. Want to become a tester? Please request access through our Google+ Community.
Thank you
A big thank you to the contributors who worked on this release: @daniloercoli, @jasmussen, @kwonye, @maxme, @nbradbury, @roundhill, and @tonyr59h.
